Motorola on Friday started pushing out Lollipop update for Moto G phones in India. The both models of Moto G -- the older one released in 2013 and the newer one released in 2014 -- are getting the update.
Motorola said that the update would be reaching consumers in phases so it is possible that you may not see the software update immediately. But it is expected to be available on all phones within a day or two.
Also, as specified by Motorola earlier, the users of the Moto G (2013) model will need to have the updated app that controls OTA (over the air) updates. This app, if not already installed, can be downloaded from the Google Play store.
"Lollipop is rolling out in phases to #MotoG (1st & 2nd Gen) in India. Look for the notification on your device," tweeted Motorola India.
For now it is not clear if Motorola is pushing out the update based on Android Lollipop 5.0 or Android Lolllipop 5.0.1, which is the latest version of Android.
Update: Motorola is giving Moto G users Android Lollipop 5.0.2.
Earlier, Motorola had said that its Lollipop update was delayed slightly due to bugs in Google's mobile operating system.
"Updates of this nature take time. It's no secret that when 5.0 launched it still had bugs. And, when we update our products, we end up finding more bugs that need to be fixed. There are a lot of reasons for what that happen, but, basically, each phone has a unique set of components and a way they interact. When Google creates a new release, they don't validate it for all the possible combinations there are, and they won't fix anything that's not reproducible on a Nexus device, that's our job," said a Motorola engineer.
