A Canada-based company Thalmic Labs has created an armband called Myo. It is a wearable tech which uses EMG and another bunch of sensors to tech hand gestures and then send them to a device via Bluetooth. The Myo armband can be used to deliver keynotes and control computers.
I woke up this morning to be blown away by this piece of hardware called Myo. However, this is not the first time I have come across such tech. Leap Motion is one such tech.
Now, in the case of Leap Motion, there is a tiny device which senses your forearm movements using infrared cameras and LED lights. But Myo just wraps around your arm and detects your hand movements. It does so by detecting the electrical activity of your arm muscles using Electromyographic (EMG) sensors. Probably, that’s where the name Myo came from.
It also has a bunch of other sensors like gyroscope, magnetometer, and accelerometer. The combined operation of these sensors and eight EMG sensors help Myo recognize your hand gestures.
The wristband can be used for various purposes like delivering keynotes, using a computer, playing games, etc. You can also control Parrot drones and various other devices. Thalmic Labs has also created an online store featuring apps which can be controlled using the Myo wristband. Find more information about Myo on its official website.

So, what is Myo and what it does?
Created by Thalmic Labs, Myo is a wearable tech in the form of a wristband. It connects via Bluetooth to a plethora of devices and allows the wearer to control them over the air. Now, in the case of Leap Motion, there is a tiny device which senses your forearm movements using infrared cameras and LED lights.
